Spirit in the Desert Retreat Center

This was the 3rd annual gathering of leaders and supporters from around the world. It is a time of not only hearing presentations of various leaders who participate in the J-17 Movement, but a time of fellowship with each other, dialoging, and praying together. Among those who made presentations were Jean-Luc Mones, the leader of the newly formed Catholic Charis group; an initiative of the Vatican to see the Baptism of the Holy Spirit experienced across the Catholic Church. Linda Morris of Phoenix shared her deeply personal journey of healing from abuse in her childhood and how God brought healing and ministry from her experiences. Bishop Peter Smith of Portland, Oregon shared about the common baptism that unites all Christians and his recent appointment to the Council on Ecumenism in America. Julia Torres, former assistant to Cardinal Bergolio in Argentina (now Pope Francis), shared about her personal ongoing relationship with Pope Francis and his desire for Christian unity. Lisa Jernigan of Central Christian Church ministered on her life-changing experiences with women and leaders in the Middle-East and how love is making bridges to the muslim people. Pat Markey of the Focolare shared the recent history and reforms of the sexual abuse scandal in the Catholic Church.  Mike Herron spoke about the value of each believer in Christ regardless of their particular denominational affiliation and how we must value what God values. Ryan Nunez of Palm Valley Church spoke of his journey in leading his protestant congregation into a shared experience of Christian unity with other believers.
